Strength-based solution-focused therapy (SBSFT) is a type of therapy that focuses on the client’s strengths, resources, and goals, rather than their problems, deficits, and pathology. SBSFT assumes that clients could create positive change in their lives, and that my role as a therapist is to facilitate this process by asking solution-oriented questions, providing positive feedback, and co-constructing a realistic and achievable action plan with the client.
Therapy with me is a process whereby me and my client rewrite a new life story that is more meaningful at this time in their life. My style of therapy is collaborative and respectful. As a strength-based solution focused therapist, my focus in therapy is on solutions, rather than problems. I used my client’s strengths to help reach their goals as we progress in therapy, I leverage the more optimistic and empowering story about my client’s life to exemplify that my clients, and not their problems, control their life.

I will ask you to describe how you would like your situation to be different, what you would be doing differently, and how you would know that you have reached your desired outcome. I will help you to identify specific, measurable, and attainable goals that are within your control.
I will work with you to recall times when you have successfully dealt with similar or related situations, or when you have displayed qualities or skills that helped you achieve your goals. From these experiences I will draw the strength that you already have in your which you use previously to solve your problems. I will help you recognize the support and assistance that you have available from others, such as family, friends, or professionals.
I will ask you to expand on the details of your successful experiences and highlight the positive aspects of your current situation. I will help affirm actions that emphasize your strengths, abilities, and efforts.
I will collaborate with you to devise a concrete and realistic action plan that will help you move closer to your preferred future. The plan will consist of small and manageable steps that you can take in between sessions, as well as strategies to cope with potential obstacles or setbacks. I will help you predict how you will feel and what you will notice when you complete each step of the plan.
Step by step I will go over with you the main points of the session, review the solution plan, and provide confidence in your ability to achieve your goals. From this point onwards, we will continue in the following sessions to rewrite a new life story for you based on SBSFT that brings joy to you and a fulfilled life.
